Since 2008, the DDPS Training Course was conducted in a cooperation between the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) in Accra/Ghana.


GIZ offers demand-driven, tailor-made and effective services for sustainable development. Through its work, it facilitates change and empowers people to take ownership of their own development. In doing this, GIZ is always guided by the concept of sustainable development, and takes account of political, economic, social and ecological factors. GIZ operates in many fields: economic development and employment promotion; governance and democracy; security, reconstruction, peacebuilding and civil conflict transformation; food security, health and basic education; and environmental protection, resource conservation and climate change mitigation. As part of its services, GIZ also second development workers to partner countries. GIZ operates throughout Germany and in more than 130 countries worldwide. As a federal enterprise, it supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ is also engaged in international education work around the globe.



Located in Accra, Ghana, KAIPTC is one of three institutions designated by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as a regional Centre of Excellence for the delivery of research and training support in Conflict Prevention, Management, Resolution and Peacebuilding. In May 1998, Ghana’s Ministry of Defence approved plans for the establishment of an international peacekeeping training institution. This centre was originally envisaged to address reagional peace and security challenges by equipping men and women with skills needed for managing the changing demands of complex and multi-dimensional peacekeeping activities. In 2002, construction began, and in 2003 the first course was run. Today, KAIPTC has become an internationally preferred centre for research, training and education. Since the first course was conducted, KAIPTC has trained more than 8.000 military, police and civilian personnel from over 80 countries.
